ROLE DESCRIPTION

ECB Regional Assistant Coach

Department:

Cricket (England)

 

Reports to:

ECB Elite Player Development  Manager

 

 

 

1        Purpose of the Role:

  • To support the Regional Coach in the leadership, guidance and direction to players and other staff as part of the ECB Regional programme
  • To help in the identification, selection and development of young players who demonstrate the appropriate aptitude, athleticism and attitude to play at the highest levels of the game
  • To coach on the preparation and practice days of the regional squad
  • To attend the regional festival
  • To be available to assist in the pastoral care of the players

3        Facts and Figures:

·         There are four regions in England and Wales: London and East, Midlands, North, South and West.

§         There are regional squads at Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 levels

§         There will be up to 18 players in each Regional squad during the winter  programme and up to 14 players in the summer programme

§         There will be approximately 14 days work per annum per age group made up as follows :

 

-          4/5 days Festival cricket

-          3 days summer festival preparation

-          5 days close season practice/preparation

 

4        Principle Responsibilities:

§           To be part of the Regional selection committee to select players according to the Regional Age Group selection procedures manual.

§           To help monitor the progress of Regional Squad Players.

§           To work closely with Regional Coach, Regional Manager, other coaches and support staff to implement a core programme to develop/support the regional players.

§           To liaise regularly with the Regional Coach and Regional Manager on matters relating to the regional players

§           To liaise closely with the Regional Coach, and be prepared to undertake any other duties related to the work of these functions as required.

§           To assist in the pre-match preparation and coaching players during the day.

§           To contribute to match strategy.

§           To contribute to post-match de-briefs.

§           To ensure all Regional activities adhere to the ECB Safe Hands Policy.

§           To be available to assist in the pastoral care of players

 

5        Nature and Scope of Role:

A.      Role Context:

 

The ECB Elite Player Development Department Regional Coach is responsible for delivering the Regional coaching and development programme. The post holder operates under the guidance of the Elite Player Development Manager, who in turn is responsible for ensuring that the Coach’s support requirements are met.  The Regional Coach will have a strong relationship with the Regional Assistant Coach and Regional Manager, as well as the players and sports science and medicine support staff.

6.      Knowledge and Experience:

 

 

§         ECB Level III qualification (or International equivalent)

§         Good knowledge of ECB talent development programme

§         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

§         Extensive coaching experience and skills

§         Experience of coaching talented players

§        Experience of working with players under the age of 18 and knowledge of    Welfare of Young People issues

§         Good IT skills

§         Good organisational skills

§         Good resource management capabilities

§         Enhanced CRB clearance through the ECB

§         Attendance at UK Sport Good Practice and Child Protection workshops

§         Member of the ECB Coaches Association
